In 1910, for the 300th Anniversary of the founding of Cupids – a group of Cupids expatriates made a grand gesture and donated a flag measuring 11 x 7 metres. It was without a doubt the centrepiece of the celebration. In 1946, during a windstorm the flag pole collapsed and the flag was badly torn and lying on the beach. Edith Morgan, whose house was across from the site, gathered the flag from the beach, cut off the worst of the damaged area and painstakingly mended the rest. For many years, it remained in storage but it was always a key symbol of pride and inspiration for the residents of Cupids. It motivated the donation of a replica flag my Mr. H.B. Dawe, the restoration of the flagpole site, the establishment of the Cupids Historical Society and the creation of the Cupids Museum. Today, it is proudly displayed at Cupids Legacy Centre and a replica is flown for special visitors and occasions.
